Not Just Another Birthday

Image
May 27, 2012                 A couple of weeks ago, I wrote a little reflection on my 15 th birthday in Christ and the journey to that moment in my life. I have been reminded these last two weeks as I trip over myself, that 15 is an adolescent age; full of glory and folly, growth and stumbling, passion and stupidity, moments of greatness and moments where the ability to think clearly evades. I remember being 15 chronologically and how much I loved that year, so I am grateful for the adventure of being an adolescent Christ follower. I seem to recall that John the apostle was just that when Jesus called on him.             But that’s not really why we’re here right this minute. We’ve come to talk about the 2 nd most important day in the Church year. I know what you’re thinking. Resurrection Day is tops (at least I hope that’s what you’re thinking, because it...

I'm 15 Today

As I look out my office window this May 9, 2012, the skies that were sunny less than an hour ago have darkened with clouds and the rain has begun. Have I mentioned it’s kind of cold? It is. This is the perfect climate for this date in my life. There is so much I would love to share about this date, but you will get bored, fall asleep, fall out of the window and die if I share it all. OK, on the surface it’s about baseball, but it’s really about me and Dad (and other men who came up short in my early life) and the wounds I chose to pick at long after they should have scarred over. OK, maybe it's really about my inability to grow up long after I should have. You can think of it however you ...

Vision Leaks

My blogspot has been lonely for a few weeks. What follows isn't really "bloggy" in my mind (whatever that means) and likely a bit too focused to believe I wrote it (although, as you can see, a considerable amount wasn't actually mine). It was a letter of encouragement and challenge to my church community. Hope it's encouraging to you.  In this format, it has a video of one of my favorite writings attached. In any case, here are some thoughts for all 2 or 3 of you who read this stuff. :) Blessings. April 26, 2012                 Vision leaks. You put it out there, everyone gets all excited, and then it’s gone. It’s very easy to forget the vision of God’s purpose, and always worthwhile to re-state. With growing fondness and love for all of you, here it is (as simply as I can give it to you): And he [God] made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purpose...
